Dr. Lesser graduated Magna Cum Laude from Princeton University in Biochemistry and Biomedical Engineering and completed his Medical Degree at the University of Rochester. He trained as an Ophthalmic Surgeon at Henry Ford Hospital where he served as Chief Resident and received advanced training in glaucoma surgery from world renowned H. Saul Sugar, M.D. He remained at Henry Ford Hospital as a Senior Staff Ophthalmologist for 21 years. During that time he served as Director of Glaucoma Services for the entire Henry Ford Hospital System, as well as Division Head of the Troy subspecialty center. He trained over 125 residents and 3 fellows. He was honored as an “outstanding teacher of ophthalmic surgery”.
A Board Certified Ophthalmologist since 1981, he has been a member of the prestigious American Glaucoma Society, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Michigan Ophthalmologic Society, the Association of Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, the Oakland County Medical Society, and the American Medical Association.
Dr. Lesser has written numerous publications and book chapters, created videos and CDROMS. He has been an invited speaker at the American Glaucoma Society and the Association for Cataract & Refractive Surgery; he is a sought-after speaker because of his expertise in cataract surgery for the glaucoma patient.
Dr. Lesser is the Chief of Glaucoma at Beaumont Eye Institute. He has been selected as one of the “Best Doctors In America” by his peers.
